The game gives players the chance to take a team through qualifying games and into the World Cup itself, with matches taking place in digital reconstructions of various stadiums around Brazil. It’s well done and infuses the game with a lot of the flavour and excitement surrounding the big event.

It is no longer enough to just play against the computer, especially when you get to the point when you are winning 10-0 every time out. This is why there are multiple ways to compete against the rest of the world online.

You can compete in an online tournament that replicates the World Cup. By the time the first match is played, you will know every single scenario possible.

Which isn’t to say this is just a copy-and-paste of FIFA 14 dressed up in green and yellow. The passing and dribbling have been tweaked to give players better ball control, and it’s easier to set teammates up for big plays. The ball physics have also been slightly enhanced, though only die-hard fans of the franchise would be likely to notice.



Even with the changes in the mechanics, the biggest draw card for a game of this nature is in the game play modes. It wouldn’t be a World Cup game if teams couldn’t at least compete for the most coveted cup.

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is also a "Story of Finals" mode that allows gamers to follow up real-life events just an hour after they happen. You can either recreate the events that actually took place or attempt to change history with your own wins. This activity allows fans to keep up with the action while keeping the game relevant long after the summer is over.

But no good game would be worth its salt if it was just a carbon-copy of a previous title, and EA did at least incorporate some changes. The most notable differences are that players now have greater control when it comes to dribbling, the passing accuracy has been increased and there has been a number of small changes in the first-touch mechanics. In all, it aims to make the action on the pitch as smooth as possible.
