As the "leader" in price increases for next-generation console games, Take-Two has increased the price of the next-generation (PS5 and Xbox Series X) versions of its 2K release of "NBA2K 21" to $69.99. In this regard, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said that the reason for the price increase is that Take-Two provides players with high-quality works that are worth the price.

However, neither Microsoft nor Sony have divulged the price of the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5. Along those same lines, video game developers have been largely quiet regarding the possibility of increases to next-gen game prices, though, according to Phil Spencer, gamers will decide next-gen game prices with their purchases (or lack thereof). Regardless, without services like Xbox Game Pass, consumers would be forced to purchase any game they wished to play for the full retail price, unless they waited a few months or years after release for the price to decrease.
 
“There hasn’t been a price increase for frontline titles for a really long time, despite the fact that it costs a great deal more to make those titles,” Zelnick told GamesIndustry after an earnings call. “We think with the value we offer consumers…and the kind of experience you can really only have on these next-generation consoles, that the price is justified. But it’s easy to say that when you’re delivering extraordinary quality, and that’s what our company prides itself on doing.”
 
Strauss Zelnick said that despite the increasing cost of producing top-notch 3A games, the price of games has not risen for a long time. Take-Two believes that this price ("NBA2K 21") is reasonable based on the value it provides to consumers and the new experience that can only be enjoyed on next-generation consoles. Obviously 2K does not represent the entire industry, but the pricing must reflect the quality of the experience. Given that the price of the game has not changed for a long time, a price change of $10 is very appropriate.
 
In the 2021 fiscal year Q1 earnings conference call, Strauss Zelnick was mentioned again about the price increase, and he emphasized that Take-Two is absolutely priced according to each work. In this generation of consoles, the player's experience will be better than ever. Strauss Zelnick fully believes that "NBA2K 21" is worth the price, and he has no worries.
